Redox Reaction is the meeting of Kriton Beyer daxophone and Simon Rose baritone saxophone. In spite of obvious differences, the manner in which Beyer and Rose employ their instruments reveals a somewhat surprising matching of timbre, pitch range, and an expressive ‘closeness’. The music of Redox Reaction is organically rich, room-filling and lively, textural and at times melodic – it can be loud and intense as well as intimate and fragile.
Kriton Beyer is a Greek-German musician and composer working mainly with the harmonium and the daxophone. He studied musicology in Greece where he played with a variety of local music groups. In 2004 he moved to Berlin and is heavily involved in the city’s improvised music scene. He has worked with many musicians such as Axel Dörner, Tristan Honsinger, Tomomi Adachi, Kresten Osgood, Richard Scott, Floros Floridis, Matthias Bauer, Olaf Rupp, Antonis Anissegos, Nicola Hein, Els Vandeweyer, Liz Allbee and Harri Sjöström. Simon Rose is a British baritone saxophonist and author born in London and based in Berlin. He collaborates in a wide range of musical contexts and also works with dancers, visual artists and others.
