Die Kombination aus Rhythmus und Melodie, die Grundlage der meisten Musikkulturen, findet im Duo Yan Van (Yiannis Angelopoulos) und Fotis Siotas eine neue Perspektive und Substanz.
Mit einem weiten Feld musikalischer Anwendungen und künstlerischer Interessen treffen die beiden Schöpfer aufeinander und definieren einen Klangraum, den sie posttraditionelle Musik aus Griechenland nennen.Rhythmische und melodische Elemente, die in unserer breiteren Musiktradition zu finden sind, werden „gefiltert“, bereichert, verschoben und verbinden klanglich die Vergangenheit mit der Gegenwart, das Vertraute mit dem Unerwarteten.Mit dieser Klangausrichtung haben die Alben „Folks Nowadays“ (2023) & BKXΣ (2024) die musikalische Handschrift des Duos klar definiert.Den natürlichen Klangfarben der Geige und des Schlagzeugs werden Synthesizer hinzugefügt, während die Live-Verarbeitung des natürlichen Klangs mit analogen und digitalen Effekten eines der Elemente ist, die diese besondere posttraditionelle Balance ausmachen.

New album from Athens, Greece.
Inspired by The Bacchae tragedy, written in 407 BC by Euripides. The post-traditional duet of Jan Van Angelopoulos on drums/electronics and Fotis Siotas
on violin/effects make up this LP which was recorded in the cellar of Sclavoswinery in Kefalonia.
The music is deeply rooted and derives from the folk idioms found all aroundGreece. Sound-wise the album embraces urban culture and the modern way ofcelebration and partying; a sonic bridge, connecting the primeval with the
contemporary. Oftentimes it is obvious how close these two ends are, eventuallythe recording has been made so that the listener can access both sides.
Ten instrumental tracks with small excerpts of narration in three of them featuring the translation of Giorgios Chimonas in modern Greek.
Most of the tracks are based on a character from the tragedy; Vromios, Pentheus and Agave but also Kitheronas (the mountain where Bacchae goes to worship Dionysus) and the closing Algo (grieve) which features the mourning words of
Kadmus.
The vinyl is the one of the two art items that has been made for BKXS 2024 wine, music & art festival.
