Wooli / 無理 / 우리 is an avant-garde folk duo formed by Taiwanese pipa player Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo. Since their debut in Oslo in 2024, the duo has performed across Europe at festivals such as Vestafor Festival, Aarhus Jazz Festival, Babel Sound Festival, and (s)Nodi Festival. Their first album is currently in development and scheduled for release in 2026.
Drawing inspiration from East Asian traditional and folk music and the expressive freedom of free jazz, Wooli’s performances explore the meeting point between structure and spontaneity. At the heart of their work lies a desire to reinterpret and transform cultural heritage — to approach tradition not as a fixed form, but as a living, evolving force shaped through improvisation and real-time dialogue.
